It's hard to explain the depth of Ann Hamilton's Event of a Thread exhibition.
Hosted at the Park Ave Armory, which is itself is a wonder of New York. The Armory's exquisitely detailed interior and grand hall are rarely seen in this day and age. You feel immediately transported out of the city.
Walking into this grand hall with swings, beautiful swaying curtain, exceptional lighting, sounds of innocent joy, all participatory, and tons of fun. It's a playground, no?
Yes, but it's so much more. Beyond the playfulness, there were numerous cerebral experiences when you were literally forced to stop, think, and question. There was performance art, with readers, a writer, birds, a singer adding up to an end of day spectacle.
Like I said, hard to explain. A beautiful and thoughtful exhibit that I'm extremely glad I experienced (twice).
